This page will be for information for all the classes I teach at the Maltings. I also hope to show the children's work. I am just waiting to gather the e mail addresses and permission slips in from the parents. I hope it will also be a place that parents can contact me if they need to.

WELCOME TO THE MALTINGS ART CLASS- SEPTEMBER 2009

This term we will be immersing ourselves in paint. Our inspiration comes from Mark Rothko, famous for his abstract paintings which explore colour, shape, balance, depth, composition and scale. The focus of all of the art groups is always enjoyment and experimentation. It can get quite messy so please remember to bring aprons each week.

For the first week, I would be very grateful for the help of one or two parents as we walk around the Maltings car park.

Week one - We will be walking around all the levels of the car park, taking photographs and making sketches of all the different buildings. We will be using a view finder and I hope every child will get a turn at using the camera.

Toddler group - As requested the toddler group will be putting their hand and feet prints in to clay. There will be an opportunity to play with the clay too.

Week two - Using our photographs we are going to explore different drawing materials including chalk pastels, to do some quick sketches and also use a grid to make our drawings bigger.

Toddler group - We will also be looking at the photographs of buildings and using pastels and paints to do our own version.

Week three - Colour and emotions, we will be exploring how colour conveys mood, acylic painting with music and poetry.

Toddler group - We will be cutting out a collage from a huge range of papers.

Week four - Monoprinting dragons and beasts on to our coloured sheets

Toddler group - We will also be monoprinting, using our fingers to draw.

Week five - A chance to mess about with paint and texture.
