Smoke fired Belly stones

This work explores touch and human comfort. The surface is burnished smooth‚ smoke fired and polished with beeswax. The stones are often made in groups. The result is very tactile

Some have belly buttons that remind the holder of fossils in stones and also of touch and care.

Smoke firing is a calming process‚ to acknowledge and accept that the smoke will decide the final surface pattern‚ even as it is resisted by organic material and slips. It is a comforting process that involves accepting our own limitations and letting go.
